A statistical observation was made on the 512 cases of train accident who were treated under admission at the Pusan railroad hospital during the period from Jan. 1967 to Dec. 1967.
The results were as follows;
(1) The train accident occured during walking in 38.3%(196 cases), working 20.5%(105 cases), and attempting suicide 8%(41 cases), falling down 7.4%(38 cases)
(2) The ratio of male to female was 2.3 : 1
(3) The seasonal distribution was predominant in spring and summer.
(4) The peak age incidence, 27.5% (41 cases), was between 21 and 30 years of age.
(5) The majority of the injured patients were operated upon within 2 hours of accident.
(6) The injured organ in order of frequency was head injury, small intestine, large intestine, liver, etc.
(7) The main casue of death was consist of head injury in 45.7% (89 cases) and irreversible hemorrhagic shock in 36.4% (71 cases)
